Mendoza is one of the world's largest regions, and it is home to the highest concentration of high-altitude vineyards in the world. For decades, Mendoza's winemakers have been pushing ever further up the steep slopes of the Andes. The intensity of the sun at those altitudes gives the grapes astonishing power and intensity. The Chakana Winery Red Blend is made from grapes harvested at altitudes ranging from 3100 to 5500 feet. Predominantly Malbec with about 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, it is firm, grippy and intense, with sappy tannins, cassis and blueberry fruit, some thyme and laurel and racy minerality. The finish is persistent, with hints of spice and chocolate.
