Chile is unusual in the wine world because phylloxera never arrived there to devastate the vineyards as it did everywhere else. The Volcánico País is from own-rooted vines planted in Chile's Itata Valley at least 150 years ago (some may even be significantly older than that). The wine is floral and smoky, with plenty of bright, crunchy red fruit. Juicy and fresh on the palate with notes of purple flowers, and the fruit, spice, and smoke linger into the finish. A wonderful lighter red.
